School Policies

Health Policy

If this is the first time your child has attended a preschool, it is probably the first time he/she has been exposed to other children in a group at a close range.  It is quite likely that your child will catch more than one cold at school.  With each cold, each child builds immunity.  As their immunity level grows, they will catch fewer colds.  Please keep this in mind the first few months of school.

In order to safeguard the health of all children, we ask that you comply with the following rules:

  1. Sick children will not be allowed to stay at school.  Although we can appreciate the possible inconvenience to you should your child not be admitted,    we trust you will also appreciate the protection this policy provides your child when he is well.  Since we have no isolation facilities, children who become ill while at school must be picked up promptly when the parent is notified.  If you cannot personally leave your job, please make sure alternate arrangements are listed on the Emergency/Authorization form.

  2. Please notify the school if your child contracts a contagious disease; ukus (head lice), pinworms, mumps, chickenpox, etc.

  3. It is requested that your child be kept home if she is in the early stages of a cold or flu, has a temperature above normal, has a cough or a rash, discharge from the eyes, nose, or ears, or has an upset stomach.  If your child arrives at school with, or develops any of the above symptoms, we are required by the State of Hawaii to separate your child from the class in order to protect the rest of the children.  If this should happen, you will be called and asked to pick your child up from school as soon as possible.  An extra day of recuperation will often prevent a relapse.  Children must be symptom and fever free (without fever reducing medication) for at least 24 hour before returning to school.

  4. A doctor’s note may be necessary in order for your child to return to school after a contagious illness (pink eye, Fifths Disease, Hand Foot & Mouth Disease, etc.).  Please check with the Office Manager if you have any questions.

  5. If it is necessary that your child receive medication while at school, the State of Hawaii requires that it be in the original container with a physician’s specific instructions, accompanied by a note from the parent.  The school requires you to fill out a medicine dispense form with instructions to staff.

  6. If you do not want your child to go outside for recreation, please send a note to school or signify on the sign-in sheet upon arriving at school.

Tuition Policy

Tuition is based on August through May enrollment.  You are responsible for paying the tuition fees according to the session you have selected on the registration form.  The first tuition payment is due by June 1st, with recurring payments of 1/11th of the annual tuition due on the 1st of each month.  Tuition payments will be considered late after 30 days and a $25.00 late fee will be assessed.  Payments 45 days late will be considered delinquent and the child may not be allowed to attend school until the payments are made current.  The school will notify you of any change in services and/or tuition no later than thirty days before the date of the change.  Tuition paid is non-refundable.

Arrival

Please enter the first driveway and drive up to the gate.  A teacher will greet and unload your child from your car between 7:45 and 8:15 each morning.  Please stay in your car.

If you arrive earlier than 7:45 AM or later than 8:15 AM, please park your car in the parking lot and walk your child into the school building.  Be careful and watch for cars!  Sign your child in on the “Sign-in” sheet, and if you have any messages for the teachers please write it in the space marked ‘messages” next to your child’s name.  Have your child place his/her belongings in his/her cubby.  Please make sure that a teacher knows your child is here before you leave. Please check the parent file box for notices, newsletters, monthly calendars, and other information.

If you arrive prior to 7:30 AM, you will be charged $20 in the Primary Classroom and $20 in the Pre-Primary classroom.

Attendance

Please call the school office (887-9214) before 8:30 AM if your child is going to be absent.  Communicable diseases and infectious illnesses must be reported to the school immediately.  All parents of attending children will be notified of the reported contagious illness; however, the names of reporting families will be kept confidential.

Early Dismissal

Please let staff know in advance (by 10:30 AM) if you plan to pick your child up from school early. Park your car in the parking lot and come into the school to get your child. Enter quietly as children may be napping.  Sign your child out, collect items from the cubby, and quietly let a teacher know you are here.

Dismissal

Children will be released only to persons listed on the emergency/authorization form.  The school must be notified in advance if someone other than the parent is picking the child up.  The school may ask any person picking your child up from school to show their personal identification.  For any unscheduled pick-ups, always park your car in the parking lot and come inside to sign your child out with a teacher.

Parking Lot

Parents are responsible for their child’s safety in the parking lot at all times.  It is not safe to leave children unattended in the car or in the parking lot, even briefly.  Parents are asked to park their car in the parking area and bring their children into the building when arriving at a time other than Drop–off or Pick-up time.  Children may not leave the building unless accompanied by an authorized adult.
